Cut down on spam in 2008 with iScreen

Media Release                                         Tuesday 2nd January 2007

iConsult urges businesses to cut down on spam in the New Year

In 2004, Bill Gates promised that the world would be spam free by the end of 2006. Although this prediction hasn’t come true, the IT services provider, iConsult is resolving to halt the flood of spam into people’s inboxes in 2007 by launching a new hassle-free anti-spam and anti-virus system that eliminates the threat posed by email-borne spam and viruses.

Called iScreen, it is a managed mail service that includes anti-spam, anti-virus and content control measures which are delivered remotely and therefore save IT network administrators the time and money normally associated with protecting company networks.

Spam is an electronic form of junk mail which is at best annoying and at its worst can actually stop computer networks functioning properly. Viruses are more malicious than spam and are often designed to disrupt computer networks or even steal data from them.

Tony Moffa, business development director at iConsult, says: “Whilst Bill Gates may have been over ambitious with his vision for a spam-free world, we are certain that the number of spam emails filling people’s inboxes can be massively reduced. By dealing with email threats, local businesses save a great deal of time and money and iScreen presents a cost-effective way of achieving this.

“The benefit for IT administrators is that there are no server requirements or maintenance issues for them on-site. iScreen monitors their email traffic quietly and unobtrusively in the data centre, ensuring no dangerous content is allowed through our filters, before arriving in the clients’ network almost instantaneously.

“It is also incredibly flexible and allows end users to manage and review their own spam filtering by using white lists and black lists on an easy to use web browser. This means that the user always remains in control.”

Notes to Editors

-iConsult is a Channel Islands based IT Applications Service Provider with offices in Guernsey and Jersey as well as clients in Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the UK and Geneva.

-iScreen is one of a series of innovative products that the company has developed. The flagship product is iConnect, a hosted applications service that makes life a lot easier for smaller companies by removing the demands of running their own IT. Instead, all of a company’s software applications (regardless of whether they are specialist applications or more common ones like Microsoft Word) are provided on servers held in a secure data centre outside the company. iConsult run these servers and applications, looking after and upgrading them as required. This results in much lower running costs for companies and actually gives them 24hr secure access to their applications from anywhere in the world.
