eWaste Initiative
Over 200 computers saved from the waste tip by iConsult eWaste initiative
iConsult’s eWaste initiative is proving to be a great success, with over 200 good quality computers being redistributed from Channel Island businesses to local schools and charities.
Tony Moffa, iConsult’s Business Development director had the idea for the initiative after reading about the dangers that computer waste poses for the environment. With scores of highly toxic chemicals built into every computer as part of the manufacturing process, those that are not disposed of properly can leak toxic waste into the environment and cause a danger both to the environment and the food chain.
As part of iConsult’s work for its clients, it is often asked to dispose of perfectly serviceable, high specification computers which need replacing for business purposes but are in a good enough condition for schools and charitable organisations to use.
The eWaste initiative marries up this unwanted equipment with not for profit organisations that have an IT need but don’t have the budget. iConsult passes the computers on to the schools and charities after formatting them ready for use with newly built operating system and software.
So far, Les Quennevais, Beaulieu, St Martin and Mont a l’abbe schools in Jersey as well as Blanchelande Girls College in Guernsey and charities like the Jersey Childcare Trust, The Bosdet Foundation and Oxfam have all benefited from the generosity of Channel Island companies like LloydsTSB, Minerva Financial Services and Ogiers.
To get involved in the eWaste initiative by donating unwanted computers or if you know of an organisation that might benefit from some new IT equipment, please send an email to recycling@iconcultci.com.
